A Study on the Improvement of Korean as a Second Language in Connection with Patriots and Veterans' Diplomacy

Abstract
This study was conducted to improve KSL(Korean as a Second Language) education in connection with Patriots and Veterans' Diplomacy to support school adaptation of children from multicultural families from countries that supported the Korean War. First of all, this study looked at the preceding research and theory that were concerned school maladjustment of children from multicultural families. It showed that their academic interruption rate was very high and the reason was cultural and linguistic maladjustments. On the other hand, it identified the problems of current KSL education that supports language and cultural adaptation of children from multicultural families, and analyzed cases of foreign countries. As a result, it was derived that development and operation of programs for self-esteem improvement and mutual cultural understanding. These were necessary to enhance school adaptability of children from multicultural families and to foster the awareness and acceptance of multiculturalism for ordinary students. And reflecting tihs, this study sought to link KSL education with Patriots and Veterans' Diplomacy as a way to improve KSL education. KSL education connected with Patriots and Veterans' Diplomacy based on mutual understanding and self respect will be able to develope positive self-identity and the sense of community as a member of Korean society as well as school life adaptability for children from multicultural families who are from countries supported the Korean War.
